Oxygenator, Warsaw, 2006-2007 by Joanna Rajkowska
Jeudi, janvier 22nd, 2009“Oxygenator“, 2006-2007 by Joanna Rajkowska. Artificial pond with oxygen fountains.
The main element of this project is a pond of about 150m2 surface area, 1,0m deep, written into the existing lawn. On the surface some water lilies, but not too many, some plants placed at the bottom of the pond and constantly being freed from the bottom, air bubbles enriched with oxygen. This oxygen cloud
comes from oxygen concentrators, which slightly raise the amount of oxygen in the supplied and later returned air. Tubes at the pond’s bottom transport this oxygen-rich air, which is freed and appears on the
water surface in the form of bubbles. Above the pond a fog is maintained (using fog diffusers) which traps the enriched air. Surrounding the pond are specially-designed, futuristic benches, where one can sit and do some breathing.

Shadows, 1996-1998, Helsinki, by Hannu Siren

« The work was created through a close dialogue with Professor Kai Wartiainen. It aimed at balanching the steep gradient of the courtyard and providing the space with novel, impressive dynamics varying in effect according to the point of perception. Seasonal variations – the gentle touch of first snow, the dense foliation of the trees – produce a variety of different appearances. (..) The immaterial net structure of the work aims to emphasise the spatial ambience of the inner courtyard, » (Finnish Architectural Review, 2/1999, p.52)

Lundi, janvier 19th, 2009« LA-based geographers, environmental and art historians, artists, curators, architects, and others – who aim, with both wit and a healthy dose of sincerity, to facilitate creative, critical, head-on, oblique, and crisscrossed investigations into our sprawling metropolis and its various ecologies. Fashioned as a mobile and site-specific interpretive force, and appropriating the figure of the stereotypic park service ranger, we offer educational campfire programs and guided hikes throughout Los Angeles. »

The parc Nus de la Trinitat is in north east Barcelona, inside a circular motorway junction. The scale of the six hectare park is definad by a framework of trees forming a spactially effective filter between the motorways and the park. A circular gallery divides the park into an inner and an outer area.

The proposal was to establish the three space-forming elements, the mound, the rampart and the lines of poplars. At a very general level the idea is to create a natural landscape in which technology is an inseparable part.
To the south of the mound an earth rampart extends across the shallow saucer of the terrain. In the middle, where it is bisected by a road, it is about 6 meters high, flattening out at each end as the terrain rises. At the intersection of the road with the rampart there are vertical walls of sheet piling, and the road is obstructed by a hump about one meter in high. On the other side the mound rises immediately in front of one.
The light mound introduces a difference in the transit zone, pointing back to the inheritance of a specific landscape while at the same time pointing to the future through its use of modern technology. The patterns morsed by the lights out into the universe are created by human movements.

Dwarsligger – Park of the 21st century
Vendredi, janvier 16th, 2009What can we imagine for the park of the 21st century? Do we need full-programmed environments to fulfill our leisure needs or are we still longing for simple contemplation while the rest of the urban landscape gets denser and faster? Close to Schiphol Airport lies an original polder that is under urbanization pressure. We imagined the park of the 21st century here, not as an autonomous plot, but as a connection of surrounding landscapes. The dunes and peat are pulled into the sober polder in order to creat some golden edges. The space within will be slowly transformed into a water machine in order to maintain the void. Within decades this space will be a rare species and the edges congested. In collaboration with BVR and Feddes|Olthof
