PIETER JANSZOON SAENREDAM PROJECT, by LUCIEN DEN AREND, BARENDRECHT, HOLLAND
mai 22nd, 2009 by Thomas BarbeyVia St. Ives Net
The municipality of Barendrecht, near Rotterdam in Holland, commissioned Lucien den Arend to make a landscape design for a new housing project called Molenvliet. Den Arend proposed to make use of a planned water reservoir. He reshaped it into a large rectangle – eighty by fifty meters. On one end he projected a thirty by thirty meter island – ten meters away from the three adjacent shores. On the island he planted a grid of sixteen by sixteen rows of willow trees. These are pollarded every three years.

mai 13th, 2009 by Thomas BarbeyCommissioned by the city of Linköping.Metamorfos is a shining and amorphous landscape form, close to the ground. As if white metal was present in the ground already and bubbled up to the surface. The sculpture represents change, the biological processes as well as the shift in people´s minds with new associations.
Its surface reflects the surroundings. The sky, plants, clouds and visitors. Present and away at the same time, hiding in the reflections of the metal surface. The landscape of Metamorfos is to be conquered. Populated. The traces and scratches from visitors will bear witness of where people have walked, climbed, played and slided away.
